PIPA is pleased to release Issue 2 of POP014 – Assessment of Polyethylene Welds providing industry with a significantly updated guideline to support the inspection and assessment of polyethylene (PE) butt fusion and electrofusion welds.
This major revision has been developed by the PIPA working group to improve clarity, enhance technical guidance and ensure the document continues to reflect current industry practice and international standards.
Key updates include:
- Expanded information on destructive testing of butt fusion welds, with new figures and stress versus extension graphs to assist in identifying ductile, brittle and mixed mode failures.
- Updated images, tables and illustrations throughout the guideline to improve consistency and interpretation.
- Simplified wording and improved layout to make the document easier to read and apply in the field.
POP014 remains an important technical resource for the plastics pipe industry supporting best practice in the assessment of polyethylene weld quality and helping ensure the long-term performance and reliability of PE pipeline systems.
