Industry Guideline Update – POP020 Principles of Polyethylene (PE) Electrofusion Welding and Assessment
PIPA has released an updated version of POP020, reflecting revisions to ISO 13954.
POP020 provides guidance on the principles of polyethylene (PE) electrofusion welding and the assessment of fractographic features resulting from destructive testing. The guideline supports industry understanding of:
• electrofusion welding principles
• assessment of weld quality and cohesion
• identification of satisfactory and unsatisfactory weld characteristics
• interpretation of peel decohesion test results
• and good industry practice for PE pipeline systems
The guideline applies to electrofusion fittings manufactured in accordance with AS/NZS 4129 and fused to polyethylene pressure pipe systems.
This update helps ensure continued alignment with current international standards and supports consistent industry understanding of electrofusion weld assessment across Australia.
