Update to POP102 Guideline

Updated Industry Guideline Released: POP102 – Solvent Cement Jointing of PVC Pipe

The latest update to PIPA Industry Guideline POP102 provides additional clarity and practical guidance to support installers, contractors and asset owners in delivering high-quality PVC pipeline installations.

Key updates include:
✔️ Expanded Section 4 – Jointing Procedure
More detailed guidance on the correct application of solvent cement to help achieve consistent, high-quality joints.

✔️ New guidance on Solvent Cement Pooling and Environmental Stress Cracking (ESC)
A new section explaining the causes of pooling and ESC, along with practical steps to avoid these issues through correct installation practices.

✔️ New Section 8 – CCTV Inspection of Solvent Welded Pipes
With modern high-definition CCTV inspections becoming standard practice, the guideline provides context to help interpret internal pipe images correctly. It clarifies that visual effects such as solvent cement smearing can appear significant on camera but do not impact joint performance or pipeline integrity.

These updates aim to support best practice in the field and help ensure the long-term performance PVC pipelines are known for.
